What is IPC?

training centreQuality standards are a key factor in customer satisfaction and the efficiency of any manufacturing operation. Through its certificated training centres IPC offers a range of staff development programmes to meet these standards, and Electronics Yorkshire's Training Centre is one of only two such centres in England.

IPC is an International organisation formed by major industrial companies including Boeing, NASA, Hewlett Packard, Raytheon, BAE Systems and Nokia. These companies have recognised the need to ensure that sub-contractors’ quality is maintained at an appropriate worldwide level of standard classification.

The IPC-A-610, The Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies, is the most widely used standard from IPC. It has an international reputation as the source for end-product acceptance criteria for high reliability printed wiring assemblies.

Business Advantage
The advantage to having staff qualified to IPC classification is that they provide an assured quality standard to a company’s products. This standard is accepted by multinational OEMs, aerospace and defence contractors, along with many smaller electronics production companies.

An industry-agreed programme that includes training, certification and instructional materials based on three standards is available from Electronics Yorkshire. This certification will demonstrate your company’s commitment to customer requirements, and greatly assist any company dedicated to ISO-9000 or other quality assurance initiative.

The staff development programmes offered by Electronics Yorkshire cover Soldering, Product Assembly, Cable and Wire Harness Assembly, Rework of Electronic Assemblies/Repair and Modification of Printed Boards and Electronic Assemblies and Acceptability of PCBs (IPC J Standard D, IPC A 610 D, IPC/WHMA 620A, IPC 7711A/772A and IPC 600G).

The programmes are offered at two levels. The Application Specialist level is for staff who are, or will be, practitioners of the standard, such as quality staff line leaders, operational managers, assembly operators and design engineers. The Certified IPC Trainer level is for instructors who are empowered to train staff to the operator or worker proficiency standard.

Please refer to the course details.
