Environmental concerns - EY ’s Envirotronix helps!

To help the industry deal with environmental issues, EY has introduced its Envirotronix programme, designed to enable electronics companies achieve responsible manufacturing processes and which includes a review and reappraisal process that results in an award for environmental best practice.

Envirotronix features an easy-to-follow management manual, or 'roadmap', that encourages and enables electronics manufacturing companies to apply a systematic, logged approach to evaluating their existing processes and products, introducing any necessary modifications, and ensuring they meet with current and emerging environmental requirements.

The multi-stage manual contains sections covering current and forthcoming legislation, an assessment of present practices together with an environmental audit supported by the recommended action plan.

Delivery of the programme includes a specialist electronics and environmental team visiting and working with each business to oversee a diagnostic appraisal, the drawing up of the tailored action plan and a means of delivery.

The Envirotronix Management Manual is retained by each business and sets out all aspects of the programme including areas such as supply chain issues, design issues, disposal, skill levels within the business, as well as export issues and other concerns relating to batteries and accumulators, EuP, RoHS and WEEE.

The environmental audit is supported by various training activities such as practical training courses, collective events with other SMEs, and masterclasses for senior management.

After completion of all training, product and process interventions and final audit, the Envirotronix Management Manual is ‘stamped’ and accompanied by a plaque and certificate showing that the criteria of EY’s Envirotronix programme has been met.

This unique programme of support is delivered by EY but involves time and input from each recipient business in order to achieve the final award and is available to be purchased by all electronics companies.

If you are interested in benefiting from this programme, please contact us using either the Contact Us form or email Dave Williams (davew@electronicsyorkshire.org.uk).
