How Electronics Yorkshire helped Datong Electronics Ltd

Datong Electronics develops, designs and manufactures a range of advanced high performance surveillance products, sold worldwide principally to government, military and federal law enforcement agencies.

The equipment manufactured by Datong is used in some of the most hostile environments in the world and the quality (reliability and robustness) of these products is of the utmost importance – therefore staff training is extremely important to ensure that our high standards are consistently maintained. 

Datong’s worldwide success and growth have been achieved from the quality reputation that we have established. Since June 2005 Datong Electronics has fulfilled many training courses ranging from four-day industry standard soldering courses for its technical staff, through awareness of lead-free soldering issues for staff to ensure the company meets with new environmental legislation, to advanced working courses and a five-day IPC 610 course for its key staff. IPC 610 is an internationally-recognised quality standard course that enables companies to compete for contracts from some of the most prestigious major manufacturers around the world.

This training has been an essential part of our drive towards high quality and performance equipment and has given Datong a clear advantage in our market place. Our manufacturing staff demonstrates a good level of understanding of the electronic assembly process and is able to recognise potential problems and correct these.

The training undertaken at Electronics Yorkshire is something that we proudly state to our customers whenever they visit our factory.

The RoHS training we recently undertook was an excellent opportunity to ensure that our manufacturing staff is up to date with the latest legislation and the implications on the electronics industry.  Whilst Datong is exempt from this legislation we feel that it is essential to comply rather than to ignore it.  We feel that with the changes to components and solders, non-compliance actually represents a threat to our business.

In addition to training, the excellent facilities at Electronics Yorkshire have proved extremely beneficial; we regularly use the Hawk X-Tek X-ray machine and other inspection equipment that we have been unable to purchase ourselves.
