Invention Requiring Development and Production

An opportunity exists for an Electronics Yorkshire member company to design, develop and manufacture a product which has already been proven in concept and trialled in a limited manner. It would be expected that the member company would market and sell the product to major DIY chains and therefore experience of dealing with this market would be preferable. The product is a small domestic electrical component which combines the functionality currently combined within 2/3 separate products into one integrated unit. It has the aditional advantage that it saves energy and does not require an electrician to fit the unit (alternative solutions require an electrician to fit them). Once purchased, the unit can be plugged in (legally) by the purchaser in their home. It will then function immediately without any additional intervention, programming or wiring, etc.
It is anticipated that a single PCB would need to be produced which combines the functionality of the existing PCBs. A plastic housing and a suitable domestic interface (e.g. electrical plug) would complete the product.
Patents have been filed and the IP owner wishes to grant a manufacturing licence to a suitable company for the full exploitation of the product and to take a royalty on the production quantities.

Design/Development Opportunity (Hologram Printing Unit)

Here is an opportunity for a member company to design and produce, or have produced, a smaller version of a hologram printing device for a supplier who has previously had a larger version manufactured elsewhere.
The device is used to apply a ‘point of issue’ hologram to a document to authenticate it. The machine uses heat and a lot of pressure. What is now required is a smaller, lighter version.
The current machine produces point of issue security by applying a sophisticated holographic image onto a document, which may range from 80gsm paper up to Plastic Cards.
The complex production technology and optical variability of the holographic images form a security feature which cannot be copied, forged or imitated.
It is anticipated that around 250 units per year will be produced to sell at around £3000 each.
